Games for Gamers, By Gamers™

Yes, it's been a very long time since we have updated the site. The reason? We've been HARD at work on three of our products. The Outcastia Campaign Setting Sourcebook (5th edition) is about 85% complete; Divine Aspirations (the deities accessory for the OCS) is about 60% complete; and Tome of Terrors (the monsters accessory for the OCS) is about 75% complete. Now you may be wondering. Why is it taking so long?! Well, simple. We are a VERY small indie company and want to make sure our products are something we are proud of. We haven't gotten the best of reviews on the things we released thus far, although we were happy with them, so we are being extra picky with what we are doing. We are also looking into finding a way to get our pubs in a printed version again since that is no longer an option through RPGNow. We hope that when these books are released that everyone agrees that the wait was well worth it. Cheers.

As some of you may already know, our newest product "From the Laboratory of the Mad Wizard Shadmar" was released last month on The Edge. This products description can now be found in the Products section here. One reason for the late update is that we are hard at work on the Outcastia Campaign Setting and Divine Aspirations; which brings me to some good news. Since we have pushed back our release date for the OCS and a few of us on the editorial staff feel we bent backwards by pulling our contest on the complaints of a few people, we are opening up our Create-A-Class contest again. Please, if you don't think the contest is worth your time or don't like the prizes offered just ignore the contest. Don't send us flame mails telling us how "stupid" you think it is. The deadline for submissions is now May 20. We'd also like to take this time to wish our Creative Director well. Dave Sanders just had some major surgery and had to go on sick leave. He's really struggling now both due to the surgery and the financial effect the surgery has had on him. We wish him well and hope that he gets better (both physically and mentally) soon. He is one of our most cherished designers.

Many new things have come about in the past couple of months. First off, Nitehawk Interactive has been moved from the main RPGNow site to it's new site for indie publishers, The Edge. You can visit the edge at anytime from the main RPGNow site or by going to http://edge.rpgnow.com.
On a sad note, our Create-A-Class contest has been cancelled due to lack of interest. We hope to offer another contest sometime in the near future.
Lastly, we have teamed up with other vendors in the business to offer a rewards program to those people that buy our products and leave customer comments at the Edge. Below is the press release for it:

New Consumer Reward Programs
For Immediate Release
01 October 2005

THANKS TO THE CONSUMERS
We would like to take a moment to thank those consumers who go the extra mile and provide us with feedback on our products. As our thanks, we have started a rewards program aimed at those who go the extra mile. Fourteen publishers have banded together in this goal. Each month, each publisher will hold a drawing, randomly rewarding one consumer who took the time to provide feedback on a previous purchase. The award - a free product of the winner's choice, selected from the combined product catalogs of all the involved publishers. The selection of awards is widely varied, including PDFs, board games, wargames, and music, currently roughly 150 options to choose from. For more information on this program, visit the web page. The page also notes other known consumer rewards programs in the RPG industry.
Participating publishers currently include: Alternate Realities Publications, Bailey Records, Bards and Sages, Bloodstone Press, Cartography Unlimited, The Explorers' Guild, Fat Dragon Games, FJ Gaming, Hart-Felt Productions, The Inner Circle, Nitehawk Interactive, Swords Edge Publishing, Tabletop Adventures, and Talisman Studios.

The third book in the Larrgn Steelehart's Deadly Encounters series is now available. Actually if you already own the first two you already own this one. It is a compilation of Astray in the Woodlands and In a Manor of Speaking all in one volume. Why do this? Easy. Some people may want to own both in one book AND it is available in print. So, for those of you that already own the digital versions of either (or both) of these adventures and would like it in paper form you now can. Work on the Outcastia Campaign Setting is going along at a slow pace, but we are still optimistic that it will be out in the late first quarter of 2006. It's first accessory, Divine Aspirations, is basically 70% done and should actually reach virtual shelves about a month or two before the actual CS. To end this update, we have gotten a few emails asking just how one pronounces "Larrgn". Although this will be in the pronounciation guide for the Outcastia CS, I thought I'd put it here for those that are interested.

Larrgn = Lar (as in car)-gun

Our third product, In a Manor of Speaking, has been released for sale to the public. This book is the second in the Larrgn Steelehart's Deadly Encounters adventure module series. It was written by Craig Tidwell and involves all those good things that go "bump in the night". Go to our products section to check it out.
On a side note, I thought I'd post a picture of me, your humble publisher, wearing one of our Outcastia T-shirts and holding a print copy of the AHB. We have yet to receive any submissions for our Create-A-Class contest, but I am hoping since there is still about 2 months left we'll get some entries in the next couple of weeks. Don't be shy and take a chance. You never know, you could be the winner. And to keep those of you that are interested in the know, we are currently working on our two huge products simultaneously. One is the long-awaited Outcastia Campaign Setting (version 5) and the other is Divine Aspirations, which is an accessory to the OCS. I am the project manager for the OCS, while Craig Tidwell is taking the reigns on Divine.
We are hoping that Divine will be available around Christmas and the OCS in early Q1 of 2006. But as everyone knows, things don't always go as planned in the RPG business, so stay tuned to this site for further updates.

As of today we have a new url that is more fitting with what we do. Welcome to nitehawk-games.biz! Also in the next week or so we will be releasing our next two products (both are adventure modules). Be on the lookout.

July 20, 2005

As of June 16, 2005 Nitehawk Interactive released it's first product to the general public after having worked on it for five years. The revolving door of writers and artists has finally stopped and it is full steam ahead! The first product, The Adventurer's Handbook, is a rules supplement to give players and Campaign Masters alike new alternatives for different aspects of fantasy gaming. Sales for this 140+ volume so far (which is available in both print and electronic format) has been adequate and the staff is thrilled. You can find out more about the AHB and our first module on the products page.

There are already three more products in the pipeline; another module, the d20 version of the Outcastia Campaign Setting (which was extremely popular in its 2E format), and an accessory for the OCS dealing with everything divine. Information on these products can be found on the Sneak Peeks page when it is available.

And remember, we are always looking for playtesting groups. For more details go to the Playtesting section of the site.

Also, we have a contest in the works. The premise is to create a new and unique player class. Some of the prizes include a print copy of the AHB. For more details click the Contests link at the left.
